Innately comical soprano Sarah Baumgarten has no trouble showcasing her personality through the repertoire she performs. Whether singing Mozart, Puccini, or Gershwin she embraces the essence of each musical style. She brings her sunny demeanor to her collaborations with composers and other performers.

Sarah has performed at venues such as The Kimmel Center, Baltimore’s Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, Dixon Place, the Library of Congress, Temple Emanuel (NYC), The Jewish Museum of Maryland, The Triad, Don’t Tell Mama, Urban Stages, World Café Live and David Geffin Hall at Lincoln Center. She sings with the New York Philharmonic Chorus and is currently the resident soprano at St. Agnes Catholic Church in New York City.

As a concert performer Sarah has produced and performed her solo and collaborative concerts: No One is Alone: The Jewish Tradition on Broadway, a lecture recital detailing the influence of Jewish songwriters on American Musical Theatre; Jews to my Ears, a recital of Jewish songs, and songs written by Jewish Composers; and Finding Home, a concert examining the similarities and differences between Jewish and African American cultures to many appreciative audiences. Favorite roles include Lucy (The Telephone); Musetta (La Bohème); Cinderella (A Tale of Cinderella); Rebecca Kaplan (The Yellow Star); Annunziata (La Giara). Sarah has been featured with Annapolis Opera, OperaWorks, Andrea Clearfield’s Salon, Larry McKenna’s New Voices Cabaret, The Comeback Cabaret, TableTop Broadway at the West End Lounge, New York Lyric Opera Theatre, Delaware Valley Opera Company, Opera on Tap- Philadelphia and NYC, Asheville Lyric Opera, the International Vocal Arts Institute (Tel Aviv), Vancouver Summer Opera Workshop, Garden State Opera and Minas.

 

Upcoming engagements include Madame Armfeldt (A Little Night Music), and Adam/Jaques de Boys (As You Like It) with the Circle in the Square Theatre School!

Sarah earned her Master of Music degree in Voice Performance and Pedagogy from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University studying under Soprano Ah Young Hong. She received her Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance, with a minor in Italian from the Pennsylvania State University, studying under Norman Spivey. She currently maintains a private voice and piano studio in New York City, and studies with Natalie Wilson and Andrew Byrne. She graduates this summer in the musical theatre track from the Circle in the Square Theatre School!
